It has never been more challenging to mitigate loss to disease, consider how best to meet the needs of students, and use data to make decisions as an educator, administrator, and parent than it is right now. Obviously, in the midst of a pandemic, we are all concerned about Covid-19, but in South Dakota where we have twice the suicide rate for our youth than the national average, we also need to be testing for suicide risk just as we are for Covid-19. The data in South Dakota is clear. Diseases such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse have been preying on our students as suicide is the second leading cause of death for our students. By and large, suicide presents a greater risk to our students than Covid. Covid mitigation strategies need to be considered in light of these realities.

So what’s a school, a teacher and a parent to do to manage this risk in light of our current realities? Join us for this special online discussion and earn CEU credits at the same time!
